There is no place on earth like Victoria when the sun is shining. It's picture perfect. This morning Megan and I went for a walk while Aidan was at basketball camp and the girls were with Brent at the beach. We walked from the house down to Cattle Point. After days of clouds and mist, Mt. Baker was clear and beautiful on the horizon. We continued our walk down to Willows Beach to meet up with Brent and the girls.
The girls played on the sand while a blue heron plucked fish out of the chilly Pacific water. He picked his way along the shore until a little red-haired menace in a long-sleeved sunsuit chased him away. At least this time it wasn't one of mine harassing the locals.
Brent left for a round of golf at Victoria, so Megan and I walked the kids up to the Willows Beach Tea Room. Built in 1949, the Tea Room is run by the local Kiwanis Club which must surely make a fortune in the summer selling "freezies" and fantastic crinkle fries. After lunch, we picked up the boys at camp and headed home.
We brought the kids back to the house where they enjoyed a good two hour game of hide-and-seek on the lawn for what could be the last time. The house is now officially on the market and getting some "nibbles." The kids will miss driving their "cars" on the tennis court and hiding in the 100 year old Rhododendron trees in the front. I wish we had been here in the spring to see the purple blossoms that cover the area of a small bus. It's going to be tough to leave next week.
We are off to Julie and Chris' house for a swim this afternoon. The water will most likely be below 80 degrees. UNACCEPTABLE for me. We'll see what my kids think about swimming in Canada.
